Riding Buddies-Riding with a group makes the trip so much more fun. If you don't have a group but would like to ride in a group, please indicate this when you fill out your registration. We will try and find you a group to ride with that matches your riding style/skill level. The adventure motorcycle group is a very welcoming community.
A Motorcycle- You will need at least 100 miles of fuel range/extra gas.
Smart Phone/GPS- You will either need a GPS or a Smartphone with a GPX Viewer app to view the track. We highly recommend Garmin Explore if you plan to navigate with your phone. Make sure you don't wait till the last minute to test out your equipment. Getting the map to upload can sometimes be frustrating. Our goal is to send out the GPX file 10-days before the event start date.
It is also highly recommended that at least one person in the group has a GPS as they are typically waterproof and don't need any cell signal to work effectively.
You will also need someone(best if everyone) in your group to upload photos and checkpoints to the Goosechase app on their smartphone so you can participate in the scavenger hunt.
Tools- You will need to be able to fix a flat tire and other things you may break on your bike along the way.
Positive attitude- It makes all the difference!
Snacks- Riding makes all of us hungry. There will be a few places to grab snacks, but most of the ride is in a remote area.
Camping Gear/Money for a Hotel
We will be implementing an app called Goosechase. We first encountered the App on a well-known adventure ride called Adventure Palooza. If you haven't made that ride yet, you need to check it out. Here, we realized how much fun the scavenger hunt app adds to the ride. The Goosechase app will allow the moderator to set photo op checkpoints as well as GPS checkpoints to create a real-time scavenger hunt along the way. The Goosechase app keeps up with your points and shows you how your competition is doing as well. At the end of the event, we will use the photos taken to create a slideshow for you all on Saturday evening.
You can bring any type of street-legal dual sport/adventure bike! The difficulty of the ride will really be dependent on skill level. Most of the ride will be on county roads and fire trails. A skilled rider can ride a KLR 650/DR 650/ YamahaT7 on the most difficult sections of the ride. There will be some optional hill climbs and such that I wouldn't take these bikes up. However, there will be big-bike/inexperienced rider workarounds for the more difficult sections of the ride if you plan to bring a bigger bike. They will be marked on your GPX file as a big bike workaround or alternate route. The great thing about the ride being on public land is that if you find something too difficult, you can just back out and catch the route in a different location.
The ride will end back at CMA Iron Mountain Cabins and Campground. We will have plenty for you to eat and drink that evening along with live music. Awards will be handed out for the top teams/solo riders. The awards will be given out based on the top scores in the Goosechase app. You wont get more points for arriving early, but you will lose points if you don't arrive in time.
The cost of the ride will be $125. You will be provided with the GPX track, a T-shirt, a meal Saturday evening, and a meal Sunday morning.
